Our Team

Dave and Sue and 9 other drivers (Andy Moseley, Jason Owen, Neil Neath (Skinny), Neil Carey, Neil Raw, Tina Barton, Chris Worton, Dave Taylor and Simon Gisbourne (tag on team) ) drove to the Gambia on December 20th 2009 and made the journey in 13 days. This time we took 5 mini buses and a support vehicle as well as towing a VW Golf and towing a traile. Thanks to the fantastic response from the public, donating equipment for us to take with us, we have successfully delivered:-

  • Foot ball kit, boots and socks,  footballs, rugby balls, tennis balls, cricket bats, tennnis rackets and hockey sticks
  • A superb climbing frame - play area from www.Soverignplayequipment.co.uk
  • 200 Teddies for tragedy, sports bags, cycling helmets, soft balls, beanie bags
  • 5 a side foot ball nets and a basket ball equipment

for the children and they currently use footballs and skipping ropes, which are in short supply. Our support vehicle is kitted out as a mobile workshop. We are going widen their range of sport activities to rounders, cricket, tennis, hula hoops, hockey, bean bags, and more skipping ropes and footballs as well as items such as posts and cones for markers etc.

Our Vehicles

However, as our 5 vehicles are very large, we have had trouble storing them. Thankfully, Storage King Worcester (www.worcester.storageking.co.uk) kindly stepped in and allowed us to store our vehicles with them. As a charity, we are reliant on help like this to succeed in our mission. Our plain vehicles have also been made to stand out by Image Creation (www.image-creation.co.uk) who have designed some eye catching logos and pictures for the sides of the mini buses.

Our Charity

We have recently become a registered charity under the name of Glory Baptist Project (Number: 1131273) as this year we are asking for sponsors to help towards the cost of giving the school a new source to help more children attend school.  We hope to give a lump sum of money to the Governing board of the school, which they will use to get children through school from start to finish, a cost of £1000.00 per child. When the child is qualified and working the child then pays a small percentage back to the school, to allow other children to have the same opportunity as they did.  This would always need to be topped up by us, but we have spoken to a charity that has been using this method in Thailand for many years and it works very well.  We still intend to carry on supplying other items for the school in the coming years - our plan is to make the only Christian school in The Gambia - West Africa the best. Glorifying God in Everything.

Sponsorships, donations of prayer money or gifts, small or large, items in good condition useful in a school will be gratefully received and appreciated. If you think you may have something that would be useful on the trip please contact us. We are not taking large heavy items this year, but please phone if you have something that may be useful.

Woodfield School in Redditch are twinning classes with The Glory Baptist School and have raised over £800, and a 3rd Droitwich Cub group are joining with a group similar in the Gambia, along with raising £76 by saving 20pence peices in smartie boxes!. The Cubs are doing a sponsored bike ride to raise more money.

If you have a group that may like to be twinned with a group of children in The Glory Baptist School, please let me know, this would involve regular news letters and photos, exchange of drawings etc and not necessarily money.

We hope you will seriously consider helping us in our mission.
